A 53-year-old county police officer filed a $300,000 suit yesterday in Anne Arundel Circuit Court claiming injuries suffered in a 1992 car wreck left him with carpal tunnel syndrome in both arms.
Officer John Intelkofer, of the 500 block of Cyprus Lane, Severna Park, alleges that on April 18, 1992, he had stopped his county police car to make a left turn while heading south on Route 648 at Hollins Ferry Road in Ferndale. A car driven by Randy Coberly of the 1200 block of Thompson Ave. in Severn hit him head-on, the suit says.
The suits alleges that the accident, which occurred while Officer Intelkofer was on duty, was caused by Mr. Coberly's negligence. Eduardo deRon Santiago, Officer Intelkofer's attorney, said his client suffered back and knee injuries and will need future operations to control the carpal tunnel syndrome.
Mr. Coberly was unavailable to comment yesterday. Mr. Santiago said the defendant was convicted in District Court of driving while intoxicated and drug possession as a result of the accident.
The suit seeks $250,000 for pain, suffering and medical costs and $50,000 for lost wages.
$200 in medications stolen from Rite Aid
A man stole $200 worth of over-the-counter drugs Sunday from a Rite Aid store, county police said.
The manager of the store in the first block of Hammonds Lane said the thief entered the store about 1:15 p.m. and took 10 bottles of Advil worth $135 and five bottles of Tylenol worth $65. The man put the drugs in a Rite Aid basket and left the store without paying, police said.
He drove off in a green, two-door sedan that may have been an Oldsmobile, police said.
Pedestrian arrest leads to drug charges
A Baltimore man arrested Sunday for crossing Ritchie Highway against a traffic light also was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, county police said.
Officer Roger Crawford saw two men crossing against the light in the 4100 block of Ritchie Highway around 4:30 p.m. One man, Maril Antonio Roland, 35, of the 900 block of Pennsylvania Ave. in Baltimore, had identification and received a traffic citation.
The other man had no identification and was arrested. Officer Crawford searched the man and found a hypodermic needle and a bottle cap with white residue, police said.
Anthony Troy Smith, 27, of the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Ave., was charged with a pedestrian violation in addition to the drug charges, police said.
