Fire marshal investigates fire at convenience store

The state fire marshal's office is investigating a fire that destroyed a convenience store in Columbia's Oakland Mills village Sunday.

The WAWA Food Market in the 5100 block of Thunder Hill Road was left charred by the 3:20 a.m. blaze. No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

It took firefighters about two hours to put out the fire, which caused $400,000 in damage, officials said.

Old Guilford Road to close for improvements

The State Highway Administration will close Old Guilford Road between Cedar Lane and Freetown Road this month for about two months.

Motorists will be detoured on Freetown Road to Cedar Lane. Signs will guide motorists.

Improvements will be made to the Old Guilford Road/Cedar Road intersection.

The improvements are part of the $28 million Route 32 relocation project awarded to the Six "M" Company and Associates of Delta, Pa.

The entire project is expected to be completed next winter.
