A Baltimore County police officer responding to a burglary and a teen-age girl were injured yesterday evening when their vehicles collided on Winands Road.

Both were released after treatment at separate hospitals.

Police said Officer Dale Barbagallo of the Garrison Precinct was responding to a burglary as a back-up unit about 7:20 p.m. and was westbound on Winands Road near Offutt Road with his emergency equipment activated when he attempted to pass a minivan driven by a 17-year-old resident of the 4100 block of Marriottsville Road in Randallstown.

As the officer neared the minivan, its driver attempted to turn left, causing the police car to strike the rear of the minivan.

Police said Officer Barbagallo was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The girl was treated at Northwest Hospital Center and also released. Police said the accident remains under investigation and that charges were pending.
