1994 record: 9-8. Coach: Janie Robinson.
Top players: Ronda Neal, Sr., C-2B; Billie Jo Sills, Sr., SS-P; Melissa Gerdom, Sr., P-1B; Rosemary Eslinger, Sr., OF; Chrissy Doran, Jr., 3B.
Outlook: Pitchers and hitters are proven, and there are strong defensive players, but some young players will be in the lineup. ++ The team lost in the first round of the Class 1A-2A regionals.
Bel Air Bobcats
1994 record: 19-2.
Coach: Valerie Cooper.
Top players: Jen Faloni, Sr., 2B; Becky Fox, Jr., SS; Lynn Wilkinson, Jr., OF; Jackie Hinson, Jr., P; Suzanne Bannan, Sr., OF-1B.
Outlook: Fox, Faloni and Wilkinson are the chief holdovers from last year's state semifinal entry, and Cooper, last year's All-Metro Coach of the Year, might be hard-pressed to match that effort. She considers this a young, but talented, team, with its success depending on how well the newcomers adjust to varsity play.
C. Milton Wright Mustangs
1994 record: 11-7. Coach: Joe Dunch.
Top players: Kim Ditmer, Sr., 3B; Nicky Kaminski, Sr., SS; Liz Batten, Jr., OF; Julie Rivas, Jr., IF; Christie Schwartz, Jr., 1B.
Outlook: The team returns five starters, but still will be young with just two seniors. The infield is solid defensively, and the outfield is probably a little faster than a year ago. Schwartz, junior Chrissy Leone and sophomore Heather Ruleau are expected to be the power hitters.
1994 record: 1-17. Coach: Mark Buzminsky.
Top players: Jen Collins, Sr., SS; Tracey Allen, Sr., OF; Carries Bossle, Soph., P.
Outlook: This is a young team, as the program still is in the building stage, but it should improve on last year's record.
1994 record: 11-8. Coach: John Hueston.
Top players: Kim Rapisarda, Sr., 3B; Julie Clark, Sr., SS-P; Emily Weibel, Jr., OF; Katie Wirth, Jr., 1B; Mindy Karczeski, Jr., OF.
Outlook: This is a young team, with only two seniors, and there is an effort to build a competitive core around the 10 juniors. Weibel is a two-time All-County selection. The defense will be solid, but the pitching likely will be inconsistent at the beginning. Improvement will make this another regional contender.
Harford Christian Eagles
1994 record: 9-5. Coach: Charlotte Street.
Top players: Suzanne Akers, Sr., SS; Capri Ingram, Sr., C; Jackie Davis, Soph, 1B.
Outlook: There are three starters among the five returnees, but six other underclassmen, including five starters, did not return. Akers is a bright spot, coming off a season where she hit .478, had 35 RBIs, three home runs and 41 stolen bases.
Harford Tech Cobras
1994 record: 3-9. Coach: Jim Eberwine.
Top players: Julie Brinegar, Sr., 2B; Michelle Woods, Sr., P; Jen Fisher, Sr., SS; Poppy Rupert, Sr., 1B; Monica Krausch, Sr., CF.
Outlook: A turnout of 32 players, 20 of whom are freshmen and sophomores, augurs well for the future at a school, which is trying to build a program. The seniors should make this group competitive.
Havre de Grace Warriors
1994 record: 4-14. Coach: Alex Spooner.
Top players: Jen Crouse, Sr., C; Rhonda White, Sr., OF; Trish Oals, Sr., P; Raven Reedy, Soph., SS.
Outlook: Better defense and team speed are expected to make this team better. As with several other county teams, the development of young talent will determine the team's success.
John Carroll Patriots
1994 record: 10-7. Coach: Neal Drexel.
Top players: Anne Romanelli, Sr., OF; Heather Pyzik, Sr., 1B; Lisa Chrismer, Sr., SS; Melissa Smith, Sr., OF; April Lynch, Jr., P.
Outlook: Lynch, backed by a strong defense, will make this unit competitive, and if the hitting comes around -- as Drexel expects -- it will be a factor in the county race.
1994 record: N.A. Coach: Dale Terzigni.
Top players: Erica Adams, Sr., SS; Marja Stout, Soph., P; Tara Southerington, Jr., C; Sara Brill, Soph., LF; Kelly Dehne, Soph., 1B; Nikkie Terzigni, Fresh., 3B; Holly McKeon, Fresh., RF.
Outlook: The Mariners are young but first-year coach Terzigni is inspired by his team's work ethic and hoping for at least a .500 record. "The key to a successful season beyond a player's physical ability is the mental awareness of the game and that's what we've worked on," said Terzigni. "Knowing what is going on around you and what you are going to do on the next play."
North Harford Hawks
1994 record: 3-15. Coach: Sue Anderson.
Top players: Melissa Storrs, Sr., SS; Marcie Gilotte, Sr., 3B; Melinda Virts, Sr., 2B; Tina Kidd, Sr., CF; Erin Donhauser, Sr., P.
Outlook: This is Anderson's first year as head coach, but many of the players were members of her county JV championship team two years ago. Challenges and adjustments contributed to last year's woes, but this senior-junior-dominated squad is capable of getting into the county championship hunt.
