2 men arrested in attempted theft

Two Baltimore men were arrested Monday night when police saw them trying to steal pallets from a Sam's Club store outside Annapolis, county police said.

Officers Robert Rosso and Michael Homewood went to the store in the 2100 block of Generals Highway about 11 p.m. to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle behind the building. As they approached the car, two men ran out of a U-Haul van and into nearby woods, police said.

A K-9 dog helped track down the men a short time later. Police searched the van and found about 18 pallets worth $20 apiece, police said.

Gregory Higgins, 39, of the 2000 block of Kennedy Ave. and William Thomas Heggie, 35, of the 2200 block of E. Chase St. were charged with misdemeanor theft, police said.
