O's await word on exhibitions

The Orioles are waiting to hear official word on the fate of the rest of the minor-league exhibition schedule. The Orioles are insisting that opposing clubs refrain from using replacement players -- from Triple-A to Single-A -- and because they are not receiving such assurances, the games are being canceled.

The weekend schedule was wiped out, and Orioles staff members expect today's games versus the Chicago White Sox minor-leaguers will be called off, as well.

Assistant general manager Frank Robinson said an encompassing response is expected soon from Major League Baseball.

The Orioles minor-leaguers will continue to play intrasquad games if the exhibitions are canceled. General manager Roland Hemond said Saturday that the organization's Triple-A players likely will remain in St. Petersburg, and occasionally play host to Single-A players at Al Lang Stadium.
