Student, 18, charged in assault on another

Howard County police have charged an 18-year-old Oakland Mills High School senior in an assault that left a Howard High School student with serious head wounds March 10.

Bradley Aaron Matulebich of the 7300 block of Mossy Brink Court in Columbia was released Friday from the Howard County Detention Center on $5,000 bail, a jail official said yesterday.

Mr. Matulebich was charged with assault and battery and assault with intent to maim after police questioned him at Ellicott City headquarters Thursday night, police said.

The victim, 18-year-old Sean Anthony Sherman of Elkridge, also a senior, was listed in fair condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday.

Police said several people took part in a brawl on the parking lot at Oakland Mills High School, in the 9400 block of Kilimanjaro Road in Columbia, about 9:40 p.m. March 10.

Mr. Sherman and Mr. Matulebich approached each other and started fighting, they said, and several other people joined in the fight, during which Mr. Sherman was struck in the head with a beer bottle, police said.

Investigators said they are unsure what led to the fight. An administrator at Howard High School said last week that the dispute may have been over a girl.

Police said they planned to make additional arrests.
