Two charged in attempted theft of woman's wallet


Anne Arundel County police arrested two people from Washington, D.C., on charges of resisting arrest Thursday afternoon after a security officer at a Riva Giant store tried to question them about the theft of an Annapolis senior citizen's wallet, officials said.

Kenneth Wheckliter, who works at the store in the 2300 block of Forest Drive, saw a man reach into the shopping cart of Edith C. Daniels, 80, shortly after 3:30 p.m. and take her wallet out of her purse. A woman apparently helping the thief distracted Mrs. Daniels by asking her the price of an item, police said.

After the theft, the man gave the wallet to the woman, who put it in her purse. Mr. Wheckliter, who has arrest powers, stopped the couple when they tried to leave the store. After a brief struggle, Mr. Wheckliter subdued them, police said.

Rosemary Stevenson, 35, of the 2400 block of 15th Place S.E. and Theodore Lee Walker, 37, of the 1100 block of First Terrace N.W. were charged with misdemeanor theft and resisting arrest,

police said.

Man is arrested on drug, traffic charges

A Millersville man who had been driving erratically was arrested Friday morning on drug and traffic charges after a state trooper stopped him at Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and Binkey Road, state police said.

Trooper Shelly Lemon stopped a blue Chevrolet truck about 2:30 a.m. When the driver failed a field sobriety test, Trooper Lemon tried to arrest him, but the driver ran off, police said. He was soon captured by an Anne Arundel County police officer. Police said they found PCP on the man and in the truck.

Timothy William Boening, 29, of the 8100 block of Brookwood Road, was charged with possession of PCP, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest, police said.

Man steals cigarettes from 7-Eleven store

A man leaped over the counter of a 7-Eleven store in Severna Park Wednesday morning and stole several cartons of cigarettes, county police said.

The man walked into the store in the 100 block of Ritchie Highway shortly after 10 a.m. The man told the clerk he needed some cartons of cigarettes and a pizza. When the clerk turned to get the pizza, the man jumped over the counter, grabbed the cigarettes and escaped, police said.

Thief punches man, steals his wallet

A Brooklyn Park man was robbed Thursday afternoon after a man punched him in the chest and stole his wallet, county police said.

William E. Blunt Jr., 73, was working on his car behind his house off Ritchie Highway about 5 p.m. when a man walked up and asked him for a match. Mr. Blunt lighted the man's cigarette and turned away, police said.

The man grabbed Mr. Blunt, spun him around, punched him in the chest, took his wallet and ran toward Morgan Road, police said.

Couple arrested on drug charges

Narcotics detectives raided a Brooklyn Park home Thursday night, seized $70 worth of heroin and arrested the couple living there, county police said.

The detectives raided the home in the 200 block of Townsend Ave. about 9 p.m. They found four capsules of heroin along with straws used to inhale drugs, police said.

Mark Vukov, 37, and Laura Vukov, 34, were charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Man accused of trying to run over officer

A Brooklyn Park man was seriously injured Thursday night after he tried to run over a county officer and led police on a chase that ended when his truck hit a guardrail in Baltimore and flipped over, police said.

David Robert Kincaid, 29, of the 800 block of Cedar Hill Road was in serious but stable condition Saturday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault and battery and several traffic violations, police said.

Officer William Wild was patrolling the Marley Neck Industrial Park about 8 p.m. when he saw a blue Toyota leaving.

He stopped the car at Kembo Road and Swan Creek Drive, but as he approached it, the driver tried to run over him, police said. The officer pursued the car to Pennington Avenue and Aspen Street in Curtis Bay, where it crashed, police said.
