WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Junior guard Chris Parker scored 26 points to lead host Wilkes to an 88-70 victory over Goucher College in an NCAA Division III second-round game last night.
Matt LaBuda added 20 points for Wilkes (24-4), which will play Williams (Mass.) in a third-round game Friday. The loss ended Goucher's season at 19-10.
Wilkes led 29-22 after a jumper by Matt LaBuda with 6:51 remaining in the first half. A three-pointer by Chad Beeten pulled Goucher to 29-27 with 4:29 left.
The Colonels pushed the lead back to 34-27 before another three-pointer by Beeten closed the margin to 34-30 with 3:01 left in the first half.
Wilkes used a three-pointer by Parker to build a 41-34 halftime lead.
Goucher opened the second half with seven straight points to tie game at 41 with 17:53 left after a jumper by Gerald Garlic. With the game tied at 49, Wilkes scored seven straight to open a 56-49 lead with 11:38.
After Beeten's third three-pointer pulled Goucher within 58-54 with 9:56 left in the game, Wilkes went on a 30-14 run.
Jason Turner scored 19 points and had six rebounds for Wilkes, which shot 51 percent.
E9 David Clark (Catonsville) led Goucher with 19 points.
