Knights of Columbus Council 7612 of Sykesville has been awarded the Columbian and Founders' awards for the 1994-1995 fraternal year.
The Columbian Award is given for excellence in the sponsorship of programs that serve families, church, youth, communities and members.
The Founders' Award is for outstanding promotion of the organization's fraternal insurance program.
The awards were given at Knights of Columbus international headquarters in New Haven, Conn. The council received a plaque in ceremonies Jan. 18.
Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family, fraternal service organization with 1.5 million members worldwide.

* Gamber: Gamber, Reese and Westminster firefighters were dispatched to a chimney fire in the 1600 block of Crestleigh Court at 7:33 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for one hour.
Engines from Gamber, Winfield and Sykesville responded to a house fire in the 4400 block of Klee Court at 11:11 a.m. Saturday. Units were out for 31 minutes.
Gamber firefighters investigated a report of an unusual odor in the 100 block of Henry Ave. at 7:28 p.m. Friday. They were out for 54 minutes.
