At a meeting of the Archbishop Keough Council, Knights oColumbus Wednesday, Chairman Rich Walz announced that the group had raised $3,120 in its 1994 Tootsie Roll Drive for the mentally handicapped.
Each year volunteers from the local council don red and yellow aprons and join the nationwide campaign by standing at strategic locations to solicit donations.
After subtracting expenses, the council was able to give $581 to each of four community organizations that work with the underprivileged. Receiving donations were the Handicapped Athletic Program, Association for Retarded Children, Bello Machre and Providence Center.
In his remarks, Mr. Walz said all the money collected came from local citizens. Joe Snook, Grand Knight, also expressed his appreciation to those who made the program a success. The Tootsie Roll Drive is the largest of a series of charitable causes the Keough Council supports each year.
