Car accident injuries fatal for Odenton girl

An Odenton girl died Saturday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center from injuries she suffered Friday when she was struck by a car as she crossed Davidsonville Road in Crofton, county police said yesterday.

Jennifer Lynne McCormick, 15, of the 1200 block of Hillcrest Road was pronounced dead shortly before 5 a.m. She suffered massive head injuries and a fractured right arm when she was hit by a 1993 Ford Tempo shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

The girl was trying to cross Davidsonville Road near Jeffrey Drive when the car, driven by 46-year-old Fay Elizabeth Butcher of Madison, Va., struck her.

Jennifer was running from the north side of Davidsonville Road. The driver of a westbound car braked, but she ran into the path of Ms. Butcher's car, which was heading east, police said.

Man steals money, cigarettes from store

An unarmed man stole an undisclosed amount of money and a carton of cigarettes Friday from a Jessup High's store after he couldn't open the safe, county police said.

The man walked into the store in the 2600 block of Annapolis Road shortly before 4 p.m. He ordered the clerk into an office, where he tried unsuccessfully to open the safe, police said.

The suspect then took money from the cash register and cigarettes.
