Lenten services will begin Ash Wednesday at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Ellicott City.
Holy Communion will be offered. The pastor, Glenn E. Ludwig, will preach a homily on "The Difference Between Practicing and Being."
On other Wednesday evenings at 7:30 during Lent, the services will use the Holden Evening Prayer, a musical setting of the vesper service, and messages will be preached on the theme "Jesus' Words from the Cross."
Sunday church services are at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Child care is available in the nursery during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.

MADD to meet on Pine Orchard Lane
The Howard County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MADD office, 3277 Pine Orchard Lane, Suite 1, Ellicott City.

Cricketers group plans to form a chapter
The organizers of the Howard County Cricketers Association, a spinoff of the Baltimore Cricket Club in Baltimore County, would like to form a chapter in Howard County.
The league plans to participate in the Washington Cricket League, which consists of 19 teams in three states. A training program is planned.
A meeting to organize the chapter will be held Sunday at 10363 Boca Raton Drive, Ellicott City.
