Boy, 3, in vehicle carjacked in city is found unharmed

A Stevenson couple were counting their blessings last night after their 3-year-old son escaped harm during an afternoon carjacking in Roland Park.

"We are really fortunate and very lucky," said Gregory Barnhill, of the 10000 block of Stevenson Road. "The police were great and very responsive."

Mr. Barnhill's wife, Lisa, was driving their son, Scott, to a christening when she stopped at a friend's apartment in the 5700 block of Roland Ave. at 1:35 p.m. Mrs. Barnhill parked her 1993 Land Rover in front of the building and left the engine running while Scott sat in his car seat in the back seat, police said.

After she walked into the lobby and rang the bell, she saw two young men jump into the car and drive away with Scott in the vehicle.

The Land Rover was found minutes later near the 300 block of Club Road, about a mile from the Roland Avenue site. Scott was still strapped in his car seat and unharmed, police said.

"I don't think he really knows what happened," Mr. Barnhill said last night.

Officers used dogs to help search the Roland Park area, but were unable to find the carjackers, said police spokeswoman Sabrina V. Tapp-Harper.

Mr. Barnhill said his wife could not talk about the incident last night.
