COPPIN STATE (18-8)

Fast breaks: The Eagles, winners of 15 straight, routed Morgan State, 90-63. Senior reserve F Michael Thomas led five Coppin State players in double figures with 16 points. Keith Carmichael (15 points) hit two three-pointers during the Eagles' 10-2 run at the 10:00 mark in the second half. Coppin had built a 36-28 halftime lead. The Eagles shot 53.4 percent from the field and converted 21 of 27 attempts from the foul line. Coppin will be the top seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament and will meet the winner of the Delaware State-Florida A&M; game in a quarterfinal contest Thursday at Morgan State.

LOYOLA (9-17)

Fast breaks: The Greyhounds ended the regular season with yesterday's 64-60 win over Fairfield.

MARYLAND (22-5)

This week: Wednesday at Duke, 7 p.m.

Fast breaks: The Terps completed their home season with a 16-0 record after an 84-68 victory over Clemson. It was the fourth time that Maryland went unbeaten at home and the first since 1979-80. The win also enabled Maryland (11-3) to climb into a first-place tie in the Atlantic Coast Conference with North Carolina. Sophomore C Joe Smith had 33 points (matching his career high) and 10 rebounds for Maryland. Smith made 10 of 13 shots from the field and was 13-for-22 from the line, breaking Tom McMillen's school record of 20 free throws in a game.

MORGAN STATE (5-21)

Fast breaks: The Bears lost to Coppin State, 90-63. C Brandon Battle paced Morgan State with 16 points, G Terrence Wright added 13 and Damian Zellous had 12. The Bears, who upset Coppin in the MEAC tournament quarterfinals last season, have lost three of their past four. Morgan was out-rebounded, 36-24.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S (14-12)

Fast breaks: The Mountaineers dropped into a second-place tie in the Northeast Conference -- and will be the second seed in the conference tournament which begins today -- after an 80-64 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson. The setback ended the Mount's three-game winning streak. Leading 50-47 with 13:36 remaining, the Knights went on a 9-0 spurt to take a 12-point advantage with 10:53 left. The Mount was led by Riley Inge's 23 points. Michael Watson added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Chris McGuthrie also scored 13.

NAVY (18-8)

Fast breaks: Michael Heary scored 22 points -- including five three-pointers -- to lead Navy to a 69-58 victory over Lehigh. Heary also had eight assists. Brian Walker scored 10 points for the Midshipmen and Alex Kohnen grabbed 10 rebounds. Navy led by as many as 15 points during the second half. Lehigh cut its deficit to 61-57, but the Midshipmen recovered to end the game on an 8-1 run. Navy has won 10 of its past 11, with its only loss in that stretch coming to Lehigh in Annapolis. The win was the Midshipmen's fifth straight on the road and evened their road record at 6-6. Navy and Lehigh will meet again in the opening round of the Patriot League tournament on Saturday.

TOWSON STATE (12-13)

Tonight: At Tennessee, 7:30 (WITH 1230 AM). The Tigers conclude the regular season before the Big South tournament begins Thursday. Junior G Ralph Blalock leads the Tigers in scoring (18.8). Tennessee (9-14, 3-11) finished in a fifth-place tie in the Southeastern Conference East Division.

Fast breaks: The Tigers defeated UNC-Asheville, 69-62. Towson State squandered a 47-29 halftime lead and trailed 60-59 before closing the game on a 10-2 run in the last five minutes. Stevie Thomas and Quintin Moody each scored 13 points to lead the Tigers. Blalock, who returned to the Towson State lineup after missing three games with a fractured thumb, scored six of his nine points in the final minutes to lead the spurt. His 10-foot jumper with 4:39 remaining gave Towson State a permanent lead at 61-60.

UMBC (13-13)

Fast breaks: The Retrievers were edged by Winthrop, 64-63. The loss ended a four-game winning streak for UMBC, which has won seven of its past 10. It also cost the Retrievers their first regular-season winning record since 1988-89. Tony Thompson scored 15 points to pace the Retrievers, Artie Walker had 14 and Marc Lay added 12. Trailing 64-63 with 11 seconds left, UMBC fouled David McMahan, who missed the front end of the one-and-one. Lay then missed a 15-foot jumper and Walker grabbed the rebound. Surrounded by three defenders, Walker hurried a shot that bounced off the side of the rim as time expired.

UMES (13-13)

Fast breaks: The Hawks defeated Howard, 81-66. Terrell Harris scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half and Aaron McKinney added 12 of his 19 after halftime. UMES has won seven of its past eight. The Hawks increased a 38-29 halftime lead to 61-47 over an eight-minute span and were never threatened again. UMES converted 10 of its last 11 free throws and 24 of 30 in the second half.

DIVISION III

Fast breaks: David Clark scored 26 as second-seeded Goucher upset top-seeded York, 82-72, for its second straight Capital Athletic Conference tournament title and an automatic berth in the Division III tournament. . . . Despite 16 points from Damon Stevenson and Rodney Jeffries' 15 points and 13 rebounds, Frostburg State lost to Chowan, 60-52.

WOMEN

Fast breaks: Patty Stoffey scored 37 to lead Loyola to a 102-98 double-overtime win over Siena. . . . Kara Reed scored 25 and made four steals as Frostburg State downed Chowan, 69-54. . . . Mount St. Mary's extended its winning streak to 14 games and clinched its fourth straight 20-win season with a 97-56 rout of Fairleigh Dickinson. . . . Amy Fenzel scored 16 in Salisbury State's 99-72 loss to Marymount. . . . Adi Schneck scored 21 as Navy edged Lehigh, 61-59. . . . Natasha Parks scored 28 to lead Coppin State over Morgan State, 92-70. . . . Julie Anderson had 16 points and nine rebounds in Johns Hopkins' 78-70 loss to Ursinus.
