Two former U.S. national team stars will headline the second annual Maryland State Youth Soccer Association Workshop tomorrow at the Baltimore Arena.
Columbia's Desmond Armstrong, a starting defender for the 1990 U.S. World Cup entry, and Maryland girls Olympic Development Program director Shannon Higgins-Cirovski, a standout midfielder for the 1991 U.S. women's world champions, will head a roster of clinicians that will include MSYSA director of coaching Graham Ramsay, Georgetown University men's coach
Keith Tabatznik and U.S. men's national team midfielder Mike Burns.
The workshop, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature clinics, demonstrations, classroom sessions, a marketplace with 60 booths and interactive skill games for children. At 12:30, the draw for the 1995 Maryland State Cup, which will include the new under-20 age group, will be announced.
"From the coaches' . . . . and players' point of view, this should give them an edge on their competition for the upcoming spring season," said Rick Crow, editor of Maryland State Soccer Magazine, the MSYSA newsletter.
"It will be a lot of fun and there will be a lot of socializing."
Crow said the organizers hope to double the attendance over last year's inaugural event, which drew more than 1,000.
Admission will be $20 for adults and $8 for those 19 and younger.
