Tucker's 31 lead Towson women in OT, 80-72 STATE

Sophomore forward Trinette Tucker scored 31 points, including seven in the overtime period, to help league-leading Towson State post an 80-72 victory over host Winthrop in a Big South Conference women's game last night.

Tucker, who shot 12-for-24 from the field, also grabbed five rebounds and made three steals to lead the Tigers (13-11, 12-2).

With the Tigers leading 69-68 with 1:39 left in the extra period, Tucker took over. She scored on a driving layup to give the Tigers a 71-68 lead, and after a layup by sophomore Stacey Milton (C. Milton Wright) closed the gap to 71-70 with 1:20 left, Tucker made her only three-pointer of the game to give the Tigers a 74-70 lead with one minute left.

In the final minute, junior Tanya Belair, senior Amy Eberhart (Mount Hebron) and Tucker made two free throws each as the Tigers won their third straight league game.

Freshman Anne Cox led Winthrop (3-21, 2-13) with 13 points.

* UNC-Asheville 61, UMBC 59: Vicki Giffin scored 16 points to lead host UNC-Asheville (9-14, 6-7 Big South) over UMBC (11-12, 7-6).

Kendra Damann scored a game-high 18 points and Eunice French added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Retrievers.

French made a free throw late in the game to give her 1,000 career points at UMBC.

* Baltimore City CC 65, Catonsville CC 45: Shondray Burnham scored 14 points as Baltimore City Community College (14-11) ++ defeated Catonsville CC in a Region XX Championship game at Hagerstown Junior College.

* Anne Arundel CC 59, Potomac State CC 54: Debbie Dadds scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Anne Arundel over Potomac State CC in the first game of the Region XX tournament.

Denise Perrone (10 points) held the nation's Division II leading scorer, Sherri McDaniel, scorer to six points.

NB Arundel CC will play Fredick CC at Hagerstown CC tonight at 8.

Men

* Villa Julie 98, Capital College 79: Donte Dudley (Woodlawn) scored 29 points to lead visiting Villa Julie over Capital College.

Shuron Woodyard added 25 for the Mustangs, who finished the year winning two of 21 games.

Tory Harvey led Capital College (6-18) with 36.

* Baltimore City CC 93, Frederick CC 76: Shae Johnson scored 29 points to lead Baltimore City CC over Frederick CC in the quarterfinals of the Maryland Region XX Tournament at Allegany CC.

Baltimore will play Beaver CC (Pa.) tonight at 6 in the semifinals.
