TODAY'S GAMES

THE BALTIMORE SUN

CLEMSON (13-10) at MARYLAND (21-5)

Site: Cole Field House, College Park

Time: 1:30 p.m.

TV/Radio: Chs. 54, 7/WBAL (1090 AM)

Outlook: The seventh-ranked Terrapins (10-3 ACC) will try to complete an unbeaten season at home, their first since the 1979-80 season. Though the Tigers (3-10) played them tough at Littlejohn Coliseum -- Maryland escaped, 56-51 -- they should have fewer problems today. Sophomore Joe Smith (19.6 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3 bpg) was 8-for-8 in the first meeting, but Clemson's zone prevented him from getting the ball down the stretch. The )) Terps are a much better perimeter shooting team at home, especially juniors Johnny Rhodes (14.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.9 apg, 2.9 spg) and Duane Simpkins (11.0 ppg, 5.0 apg). The Tigers have lost four straight. Greg Buckner (12.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg) has been one of the league's top freshman, but a lack of height and depth are hurting Clemson as the season has worn out.

Time: 3 p.m.

Outlook: UMBC (10-5 Big South) has won four straight and seven of nine. Only two opponents have scored more than 70 points against UMBC in its past eight games. Winthrop (3-12) is last in the league in scoring defense (82.8) and opponents are shooting 48 percent against it.

Site: Burr Gymnasium, Washington

Time: 3:30 p.m.

Outlook: UMES (8-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) has won six of its past seven and is within one game of third-place North Carolina A&T.; Terrell Harris ranks in the top 10 in five MEAC offensive categories. Site: Rothman Center, Hackensack, N.J.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Radio: WQSI (820 AM)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Radio: WNAV (1430 AM)

Outlook: Navy (9-4 Patriot League) has won four straight on the road to raise its away record to 5-6. The Midshipmen have won nine of 10, only losing to Lehigh in that stretch.

The Engineers (5-8) defeated Navy by eight earlier this year. Lehigh, which has lost five of its past six, is led by Rashawne Glenn (17.8 ppg). Michael Heary (13.6) tops Navy in scoring while averaging 20 minutes.

UNC-ASHEVILLE (11-14) at TOWSON STATE (11-13)

Site: Towson Center

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Radio: WITH (1230 AM)

Outlook: Towson State plays its final regular-season Big South game against UNC-Asheville, the Tigers' first conference opponent. The Tigers (5-10 Big South) completed their biggest comeback in school history by reversing a 25-point deficit to defeat Winthrop by two Thursday and clinched the No. 7 seed. Ralph Blalock (18.8 ppg), Towson State's leading scorer who missed the past three games with a fractured left thumb, has been cleared to play tonight. UNC-Asheville (7-8), which made 23 of 58 shots (40 percent) against UMBC on Thursday, is second in

the Big South in field-goal percentage (.456).

Second-seeded Salisbury State split with top-seeded Marymount during the regular season and has set a school record for wins in a season. Marymount has won 17 straight games and is going after its fifth straight CAC championship. Salisbury State, which is pursuing its first NCAA berth, is coming off a 69-56 CAC semifinal victory over Goucher. The second-seeded Gophers, led by senior G David Clark (16.9 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and sophomore C Predrag Durkovic (16.0 ppg, 8.2 rpg), have won nine of their past 12 games. York, which has won 17 of its last 18 games, is led by senior C Daniel Johnson (20.6 ppg) and senior F Jeff Landis (11.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 5.6 apg). York, also going for its first NCAA tournament berth, swept Goucher in the regular-season series.

JOHNS HOPKINS WOMEN (20-5) at URSINUS (20-4)

Site: Heffelrich Hall, Collegeville, Pa.

Time: 8:30 p.m.

Outlook: The winner of this game will not win its first Centennial Conference title but will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, which doubled its women's field this season to 64 teams.
