Towson falls to Ky. despite record score GYMNASTICS

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Despite a school-record team score of 193.250, the 24th-ranked Towson State gymnastics team (14-2) lost to the 15th-ranked University of Kentucky last night.

Junior Jenny Hansen of Kentucky, the 1994 NCAA all-around champion, won all four events and set a school record with a 39.80 all-around score, one of the top marks in NCAA history.

Hansen had a perfect 10.0 in vault, a 9.95 on the bars, a 9.925 on beam, and a 9.925 on floor as she helped the Wildcats set a school record with a 195.675 score.

Freshman Robin Ewing of Kentucky was second in the all-around with 39.375 as she finished second to Hansen in all four events.

Towson sophomore Erin Shanley finished third in the all-around with a 39.10 score, her personal high and the second-highest all-around score in Towson history.

Shanley also set a school record on the bars, finishing third in the event with a 9.875 score.

NB She also tied for second in vault with Ewing as each had 9.80.
