The choice at 10 p.m. is painfully tough, but it's the sort of pain that makes for good TV: Both "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Picket Fences" offer original episodes tonight. If you are forced to choose, I'd say watch "Homicide," because "Picket Fences" is bound to be available in reruns, and "Homicide," regrettably, may not.
* "The Gordon Elliott Show" (9 a.m.-10 a.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Watch during the two-minute closing segment to see Baltimoreans responding to questions about today's topic: family feuds over wedding plans. When the talk show host visited Baltimore last month to celebrate WMAR-TV's switch to ABC, he did some of his patented door-knocking to tape the local commentary.
* "Family Matters" (8 p.m.-8:30 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- In hoping to impress a college recruiter, Urkel (Jaleel White) steps into his "transformation chamber" with hopes of borrowing some of Einstein's brains -- and ends up grabbing some of Elvis' swagger instead. Wouldn't the college recruiter have been impressed merely by seeing the chamber? ABC.
* "The X-Files" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- Tonight's plot concerns an invisible ill wind that blows very, very stiffly. Or is it, like many of Mulder and Scully's paranormal suspicions, more than just a lot of hot air? Fox.
* "Homicide: Life on the Street" (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- The three-parter about the shooting of three "Homicide" officers is over, but the plot remnants continue. Specifically, Bayliss (Kyle Secor) has to follow the trail of evidence and discover which of his fellow detectives may have killed the suspect being sought for the shooting.NBC.
* "Picket Fences" (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Taking inspiration from recent headlines, this week's "Picket Fences" brings a convicted child molester to Rome -- but one who has paid his dues in prison, and now seeks to re-enter society. The debate, which naturally will wind up in court, is whether people, especially his neighbors, have the right to know about his past. CBS.

* "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., MAX) -- There are so many good portrayals in this film, especially by Leonardo DiCaprio, that it could be shown as an installment of the PBS series "Grape Performances."
