Just how much did senior point guard Pat Young mean to this season's Western Maryland men's basketball team?
In the team's first playoff appearance in 15 years on Wednesday, the Green Terror had a one-point lead over host Muhlenberg early in the second half when Young went out with a severe cut to his finger.
When he returned six minutes later, the Mules were in the middle of a 28-8 run.
Young, who earned All-Centennial Conference honorable-mention status, didn't take another shot after returning and the Mules, winners of the conference's East Division, advanced with a 78-54 win.
Sophomore Daeviid St. Rose, a second-team All-CC forward, was the only member of the Green Terror in double figures with 15 points.
Young, who played most of his Green Terror career at shooting guard, closed out his career as the school's ninth-leading scorer with 1,164 points. No other Green Terror player has hit more three-pointers than Young in a game (six), season (64 this year) and career (194).
The Green Terror (11-14) won five of its last six conference games to take second place in the CC West.
Women's basketball
A couple of points were the difference between making the playoffs and falling short for the Green Terror women.
Western Maryland and Gettysburg went into the final week of the regular season tied for second in the CC West with 9-3 records.
Last Thursday, Dickinson's Roe Falcone hit 10 free throws in the final minute to give the Red Devils a 78-75 win over the Green Terror.
Saturday, Gettysburg clinched second place with a 66-64 win at Western Maryland.
A young Green Terror team far exceeded most expectations and has plenty to look forward to. Only forward Denise Spangler will be lost to graduation.
Sophomore guard Sandi DeJager (15.7 ppg.) was a first-team all-conference selection after being named honorable mention as freshman. Sophomore Heidi Snyder set a school record with 83 blocks this season.
Swimming
The Green Terror came away with three individual titles in the second annual CC swimming championships at Swarthmore last weekend.
On Friday, senior Buffy Burke won the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 15.01 seconds -- a conference and school best. On the men's side, sophomore Peter Fuller took the 200 individual medley in 1:59.77.
On Sunday, junior Karen Alexander set a school and conference mark in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.93. The time also met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championships scheduled for March 9-11 at Wesleyan University Middletown, Conn.
Burke added a second-place effort in the 200 free on Saturday before closing out her career Sunday with a third-place showing in the 100 free.
Gettysburg swept the team competition for a second straight year.
Wrestling
Joe Fleming fell just short of an individual title at 177 pounds in the second annual CC wrestling championships at Gettysburg.
Fleming placed second after dropping a 6-4 decision to Gettysburg's Sean Pickett in the final round of competition.
Steve Smiddy (134), Phil Simmerer (167) and Jeff Kellmer (190) ++ all took third for the Green Terror.
Muhlenberg had five champions in edging defending champ Ursinus, 83.5-78.3, in the team race. Western Maryland was fifth with 33.5.
