Lone black member quitting Moose club
FREDERICK -- A Frederick man admitted last year as the only black member of a Moose club in Western Maryland has decided not to renew his membership, saying he did not feel welcome even though he attended no club functions.
"I felt I had made my point by breaking that barrier," said Edward B. Jenkins, 52, a longtime community activist whose membership application was sponsored by a Baltimore-area Moose member because no one locally would support him. "If I had had a sponsor from Frederick, I would have felt more at ease," he said.
Tom Warfield, administrator at the Frederick Moose lodge, said Mr. Jenkins would be a member in full standing until the end of March. Even if Mr. Jenkins does not pay his dues, he will be allowed in the club for another year. "The doors are open to him," Mr. Warfield said. "We haven't seen or heard anything from him since he enrolled last spring."

Several customers were on the dealership's lot at the time, said Cpl. Diane Richardson, a police spokeswoman. No money appeared to have been taken.
