County police have ordered periodic checks of the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association building after it was vandalized several times over a five-day period.
Sue Ferris, 39, who works for the association, reported the damage to county police shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The first incident occurred early in the morning on Feb. 16, when someone closed off the service valves to the air conditioner unit of the building, in the 1200 block of River Bay Road. A technician told Ms. Ferris that only someone with knowledge and proper tools could have turned off the valves and that the unit would have burned up if it had not been serviced.
The second incident was discovered about noon Monday, when Elaine Barnhardt, another employee of the association, arrived at work and found the words "I'll be back" written on the wall in a reddish-brown liquid.
The most recent incident occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning, when a wooden panel on the overhead door of the maintenance garage was broken and an 8-foot railroad tie was left in the parking lot, police said.
