* Elkridge: 5600 block of Railroad Ave.: Someone tried to steal a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier Friday by breaking the lock on its ignition, police said.

6100 block of U.S. 1: A 1986 Ford Thunderbird was nearly stolen from the lot outside Nolan's Pub early Saturday after someone tampered with the car's ignition, police said.

* Ellicott City: 7700 block of Blueberry Hill Lane: Police said an inoperable dark green 1974 Chevrolet van with Maryland tags 055402 was towed away Saturday or Sunday. A large supply of tools was in the vehicle.

8600 block of Town and Country Blvd.: A woman returned home and found two men on her second-floor balcony Monday afternoon. Police said a bar on the sliding glass door may have prevented entry by the men, who jumped from the balcony and fled.

4800 block of Avoca Ave.: Compact disks, jewelry, credit cards and firearms were stolen from a home after someone entered by breaking a window Monday. Police said neighbors saw a white male in his 30s with dark brown hair run from the home and drive away in a black van.
