Resident taking steps to start cross-stitch club

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Topstitch, understitch, halfstitch, floss and patterns are terms near and dear to the heart of any cross-stitch fan. They are also familiar terms to Eldersburg resident Dorothy Harris.

Mrs. Harris acknowledges being hooked on the hobby, even though she became acquainted with it only two years ago. Now she is looking for others who share her passion for cross-stitch.

Mrs. Harris has taken the first steps to starting a cross-stitch group in the Eldersburg area. An organizational meeting is scheduled for March 6 at 7 p.m. in the community room at the Eldersburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library. The snow date is March 28.

Cross-stitchers of all experience levels are invited. Mrs. Harris hopes the group will be a place for cross-stitchers to share their skills, learn new techniques and make friends.

Stitchers attending the first meeting are asked to bring a current project and a completed piece to share with the group. Information: 795-8674.

For many high school seniors, getting accepted to the college of their choice is difficult enough. Paying for their education can be even more daunting.

Black Rock Associates, owner of Carrolltown Center, is offering a $500 scholarship to one graduating senior from Liberty High and one from South Carroll High.

The scholarships will be based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need and will be awarded March 31.

Graduating seniors with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are encouraged to apply. Students may get application forms from their school's guidance office or at the Carrolltown Center management office (781-7070). The deadline for applications is March 17.

Liberty High students may submit completed applications to their guidance office or deliver them to Carrolltown Center. South Carroll students must deliver the forms to Carrolltown Center.
