Sunday's Team Challenge 10-Miler to kick off RRCA racing series

THE BALTIMORE SUN

While Maryland and District of Columbia Road Runners Club of America affiliates get ready for Sunday's Team Challenge 10-Miler, individual runners might want to take note: The race is the first in the 1995 Maryland RRCA Championship Series.

The series is in its second year, and Evan Thomas, the RRCA Maryland representative and director of the Maryland RRCA Championship Series, says: "We had a few hiccups in getting all the results coded correctly from all the clubs the first year. It should be that much easier to get that corrected this time around."

The following races have been announced as part of the Maryland RRCA Championship Series:

* Sunday, Md.-D.C. RRCA Team Challenge 10-Miler, Howard CC.

* March 5, Springburst 8K, Greenbelt.

* May 28, Constellation Classic, Baltimore.

* June 4, Bel Air Town Run 5K, Bel Air.

* July 4, Frederick's Fourth 5K, Frederick.

* July 15, Rockville Twilight 8K, Rockville.

* Aug. 27, Annapolis Ten-Miler, Annapolis.

* Sept. 3, Greenbelt 15K.

* Sept. 17, Union Mills 8K, Westminster.

* Oct. 7, Great Allegheny Run 15K, Cumberland.

If the Maryland-D.C. RRCA Team Challenge 10-Miler is canceled because of weather, the Howard County Striders' Metric Marathon on Nov. 19 will replace it.

Thomas says that everyone who runs Sunday's 10-miler at Howard Community College automatically will be entered in the series. Applications will be available for clubs to take back to their memberships and will be available by mail.

For an application, write Phil Quinn, 403 Bostwick Lane, Gaithersburg, Md. 20878, or call him at (301) 977-7361.

For information, call Thomas at (410) 760-9188.
