Massimo Pallottino, 85, an archaeologist who was an authority on the Etruscans of ancient Italy, died on Feb. 7 at his home in Rome of a heart attack, the Associated Press reported. Another expert on the Etruscans, Larissa Bonfante, who is a professor of classics at New York University, said, "He was the dean of Etruscan studies" in the world. Pallottino taught at the University of Rome for most of his teaching career. At his death, he was the president of the Dante Alighieri Society, an Italian cultural organization.
