Two miniseries continue Jeffersons are on 'Prince'

THE BALTIMORE SUN

If you started watching a miniseries yesterday on NBC or Arts & Entertainment, you can continue tonight. If not, and you don't want to join a drama in progress, there's always "Melrose Place." Then again, that story's been going on for a few years now . . .

* "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" (8-8:30 p.m., Channel 11) -- Movin' on back: Tonight's guests include Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford, who appear on "Fresh Prince" in their familiar TV incarnations as George and Louise Jefferson. NBC.

* "Melrose Place" (8-9 p.m., Channel 45) -- Traci Lords and the other cult members are gone, but that doesn't mean "Melrose Place" is free of guest psychopaths: In tonight's episode, Rawlings (Tom Schanley) escalates his own threatening, violent

ways, with perennial victim Jo (Daphne Zuniga) caught in the cross hairs again. Fox.

* "A Woman of Independent Means" (9-11 p.m., Channel 11) -- Second of three parts. Unless a three-part miniseries on NBC has escaped my attention, which I doubt, this six-hour drama is the longest miniseries the network has presented since "A Woman Named Jackie," also six hours, was presented in October 1991. That's a long, long time ago -- but NBC is bankrolling this one, in large part, because of star Sally Field, whose "Sybil" was one of the network's earliest and best long-form triumphs and who lately has appeared in such popular, high-visibility films as "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Forrest Gump." NBC.

* "Falling From the Sky! Flight 174" (9-11 p.m., Channel 2) -- Fans of "NYPD Blue," take note: Nicholas Turturro is one of the stars of this true-life airplane-crisis film. So, for that matter, are William Devane, Shelley Hack and Mariette Hartley, a quite eclectic cast. ABC.

* "Models Inc." (9-10 p.m., Channel 45) -- If it's prostitution, this must be sweeps month: On tonight's plot, the models of "Models Inc." get drawn into a profession even older than modeling. Fox.

* "Chicago Hope" (10-11 p.m., Channel 13) -- Mary Kay Place, whose TV connections go all the way back to "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," is guest star on this week's first-run "Chicago Hope." CBS.

Cable

* "The Boys of St. Vincent" (9-11 p.m., A&E;) -- Second of two parts. The only complaint about this intense 1992 Canadian miniseries is that it was even more intense before A&E; edited it -- and, in this case, it can be solidly argued that the missing scenes are crucial to the film's overall themes and moods.

* "Red Shoe Diaries" (10-10:30 p.m., SHO) -- Landing its biggest star since Sheryl Lee, this series tonight showcases Sammi Davis, formerly of "Homefront."
