Feb. 21: Whenever we smell musk, we suspect an absence of soap. Cold bathing and soap every day are more important than cologne. There is no beauty like that of the human face -- no melody like that of the human voice -- no sweetness to be compared with that of the human skin, if it is only washed.

Feb. 24: All the signs indicate that "the winter is over and gone," and that we are to have an early spring.

Feb. 19: Yesterday was the centennial of the birth of George Peabody, the American philanthropist, who gave millions for the advancement of education and science in this country. A laurel wreath was placed on the statue of George Peabody in Mount Vernon Place by the Peabody Alumni Association.

Feb. 21: Washington -- Frederick Douglass, the noted freedman, orator and diplomat, died a few minutes before 7 o'clock tonight at his residence in Anacostia, a suburb of this city, of heart failure.

Feb. 20: Major John C. Legg 3d of Baltimore, Squadron Commanding Officer and pilot in a 155th AAF B-24 Liberator group, was recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "extraordinary achievement while in aerial flight."

Feb. 24: Annapolis -- A bill was introduced today in the House by the Baltimore County delegation to repeal a law prohibiting shooting from the Back River bridge.
