* Elkridge residents expressed their thanks to Dr. Bruce Brumbaugh by sponsoring two billboards along U.S. 1 in Elkridge. The billboard read, "Thank you, Dr. Brumbaugh, for over 50 years of care." 50 Years Ago (Week of Feb. 11-17, 1945):

* The Howard County Board of Education, in cooperation with the federal government, opened two farm machinery repair centers in the county. Tools, equipment, material and a trained instructor were provided without cost to farmers.

* A group of concerned citizens appeared before the Board of License Commissioners in Ellicott City to protest the issuing of a liquor license to Howard B. Carter. Carter wanted to open a saloon on Main Street at the former location of the Columbia Cafe.
