Host of 'SNL' tonight is just 'Super'

THE BALTIMORE SUN

I said it last week, but it bears repeating: the only thing worth watching Saturday nights on broadcast TV is "The Marshal." Otherwise, it's hard to marshal much enthusiasm for TV tonight.

* "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., Channel 2) -- The only special event aimed at kids worth watching is this brand-new remake of Disney's 1970 comedy, in which a college whiz got even whizzier when "injected" with a computer brain. That version starred Kurt Russell; this one stars Kirk Cameron, formerly of "Growing Pains," who turns in an affable, rather than laughable, performance. Among the concessions to the '90s: Mr. Cameron's character gets "computerized" after an accident while he and his PC are on line. ABC.

* "Here Comes the Bride, There Goes the Groom" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., Channel 13) -- There goes the neighborhood. The more of these quickie, tossaway clip specials show up during a sweeps month, the more I look forward to March. CBS.

* "The Marshal" (10 p.m.-11 p.m., Channel 2) -- Each episode of this series has managed, so far, to strike a slightly different tone: one week it's "The Fugitive," the next it's more like "Natural Born Killers," then a modern-day "Bonnie and Clyde." This week? Who knows? But Jeff Fahey, in the title role, has fun with all of them. ABC.

* "Saturday Night Live" (11:30 p.m.-1 a.m., Channel 11) -- Talk about a sure bet: Even before Super Bowl XXIX, "SNL" booked San Francisco defensive superstar Deion Sanders as tonight's guest host. The musical guest: Bon Jovi. NBC.

* "Tales From the Crypt" (11 p.m.-midnight, Channel 45) -- Tonight Jon Lovitz is seen as a "master thespian" of sorts who would kill for a good role -- literally. Fox.

Cable

* "The American Presidency" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., C-SPAN) -- C-SPAN launches a series that, for this network, sounds like a natural: An examination and discussion of presidents, beginning with Harry S. Truman, who is discussed by biographer David McCullough.
