Anne Arundel men fall short in opener of tourney, 75-60

Everett Scott scored 17 points and Jeff Starkey added 16, leading Prince George's Community College to a 75-60 victory over Anne Arundel Community College in the opening round of the Maryland Junior College Tournament at Montgomery-Rockville last night.

Prince George's will play Montgomery-Germantown in the second round today at 2 p.m.

Adrio Jones (Annapolis) led Anne Arundel (11-14) with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

* Montgomery-Germantown 79, Essex CC 78: Tom Johnson scored 22 and Christian Byrd added 17, leading Montgomery-Germantown past Essex Community College (17-10) in the Maryland JUCO Tournament. Walter Wright scored 35 to lead Essex.

Women

* Salisbury State 63, Rowan 62: Amy Fenzel scored 18 of her game-high 23 in the second half, rallying Salisbury State (19-4) past Rowan (18-5). Kim Roth added 18 for Salisbury.

Trailing by as many as 11 in the second half, Salisbury State tied the game at 52 with 3:50 left on a three-point play by Fenzel.

* Coppin State 60, Delaware State 57: Natasha Parks scored 18 and Lisa Jarmon added 13, leading visiting Coppin State (11-12, 8-5) past Delaware State (9-15, 6-8).

* St. Mary's 62, Gallaudet 50: Tricia Kilroy had 16 points and 10 rebounds as visiting St. Mary's (5-15, 2-11) beat Gallaudet (3-20, 1-12) in the Capital Athletic Conference. Cindy Davenport (Old Mill) had 13 points and five rebounds.

* Dickinson 78, Western Maryland 75: Roe Falcone made 10 free throws in the final minute to enable Dickinson (14-8, 9-4) to hold off Western Maryland (14-8, 9-4) in a Centennial Conference game.
