Antoinette T. Otwell, commercial artist, 83

Antoinette Tilsch Otwell, who had been a commercial artist and painter, died Monday of Alzheimer's disease at Bay Meadow Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Glen Burnie. She was 83.

Known as "Aunn" or "Toni," she worked for many years in the advertising department of Stewart & Co., drawing, designing, laying out and writing ad copy.

She did free-lance work for advertising agencies and other stores, including Hecht-May Co., Linda Lynn and Mano Swartz Furs until she retired in 1975.

After retiring, she moved to Millsboro and later to Selbyville, both in Delaware. She taught art classes and exhibited and sold her paintings and drawings of historic Maryland and Delaware scenes in galleries in both states. She was a member of the Delaware State Arts Council, the Sussex County Arts Council and the Nanticoke Heritage Committee.

The former resident of Bayside Beach was born and reared on Preston Street in Baltimore. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1933 from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

She was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Services were planned for 11 a.m. today at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank W. Otwell of Baltimore; a son, Neil Otwell of Brooklyn Park; two daughters, Lois A. Hill of Monkton and Jacqueline T. Arnold of Pasadena; a brother, John W. Tilsch of Scottsdale, Ariz; a sister, Gladys M. Sander of Pasadena; and five grandchildren.
