Church wants violent toys to be turned in Saturday

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A "Violent Toy Turn-In" will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Zany Brainy at Snowden Square and Learningsmith at The Mall in Columbia.

Members of the Columbia United Christian Church, which organized the toy turn-in as part of the county's "Focus on Peace" week, define violent toys as those those that promote injuries and killings, glamorize war or reinforce male dominance.

Children who turn in a toy will receive a "peacemaker certificate," entitling them to a free toy, book or ice cream provided by local businesses.

Donated toys will be transformed into an animal sculpture as part of the "New Ways to Play Day" that will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Oakland Mills Meeting House at 5885 Robert Oliver Place.

Information: 992-0035.
