Car owner shot in hand by burglars

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Pasadena man was shot in the left hand Saturday as he wrestled with two youths who were trying to break into his car, county police said yesterday.

Police said Daven Dupree Garrett of the 8000 block of Escalon Road ran out of his house about 4:17 a.m. after his brother told him he saw two youths trying to break into Mr. Garrett's 1987 Nissan pickup truck.

Mr. Garrett tackled both suspects, but they got up and ran toward Mountain Road. Mr. Garrett tackled one of them a second time, but as he was wrestling with one of the youths, the other pulled a semiautomatic pistol pistol from his coat pocket, police said. The youth told Mr. Garrett to let go of his friend, then fired a round into Mr. Garrett's hand, police said.

The youths fled, and Mr. Garrett was taken to North Arundel Hospital. He was listed in good condition yesterday.

Police described the assailants as white, approximately 16 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, each weighing 145 to 150 pounds. The first wore dark clothes, possibly a camouflage coat and a baseball hat. The second was dressed in dark clothes and a knit cap.

2 accused of robbing, forcing man to strip

County police arrested two Baltimore men Sunday night on charges that they robbed a Pasadena man and forced him to strip in the parking lot of a gas station after they gave him a ride from downtown Baltimore to Mountain Road.

Police said the men gave Anthony K. Streams of Mountain Road a ride from St. Paul Street to a Shell station at Mountain Road and Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard about 10:30 p.m. When they demanded to be paid for the ride, Mr. Streams gave them $2 and a gold ring. When they wanted more, he called his wife in an unsuccessful attempt to get additional money.

The men then ordered Mr. Streams to the rear of the gas station where they told him to remove his clothes, according to a police report. The men left the gas station in a gold station wagon with Mr. Streams' clothes. Police, who were notified by Mr. Streams, stopped the car about 5 minutes later on Ritchie Highway just past Fifth Avenue in Glen Burnie. Mr. Streams clothes were in the car.

Mr. Streams told police one of the men kept his hands in his pocket during the incident, as if he had a gun.

Garry Raymon Washington,33, of the 1700 block of Meridene Drive and Troy Lee Dozier,27, of the 2400 block of Bridgehampton Drive were charged with robbery, theft and battery in the incident.
