Today's the last day to help the Easter Seal Society by buying a Valentine Card-Cone for your children at Dobbin Road Friendly's.

Oakland Mills students proved their athletic prowess recently.

Stevens Forest Elementary School's Elena Hekimian earned high scores on the vault (9.55), exercise bars (8.25) and uneven parallel bars (8.65) at a recent Columbia Gymnastics meet. Lindsay Derenberger, a student at Oakland Mills Middle School, placed 10th in the Ohio Buckeye Classic Gymnastics competition, where she represented Columbia Gymnastics.

Children ages 7 to 12 have the opportunity to learn a Native American craft originated by the Otomi Indians of Sierra de Pueblo.

Elizabeth Burger will teach Bark Painting and Design at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Columbia Art Center, Long Reach Village Shopping Center.

On Feb. 25, she will teach the children how to create Canadian Inuit wall-hangings, which incorporate colorful history and legends.

Using Native American symbols and legends, Ms. Burger will teach a class on "Dream Catchers and Paper Pottery" at 9 a.m. March 11.

On Feb. 25 at 10 a.m., Maria Dadgar, a member of the Maryland Piscataway tribe, will conduct a workshop at Chaselle Learning Center, 9645 Gerwig Lane, Owen Brown Village, for teachers to discuss issues of Native American life that can be incorporated in a Native American unit at school.

Ms. Dadgar will exhibit Native American artifacts that she has collected in her travels.

She will also teach Native American beadwork on a loom. Teens and adults can learn how to make bracelets, belts, bookmarks and key chains.

Howard County Arts Council will present an art class, "Multimedia Masterpieces: Famous Artists," for kindergartners to second-graders at Chaselle Learning Center, 9645 Gerwig Lane, Owen Brown Village, next month.

Instructor Rob Langevin and the students will explore drawing, painting and collage using the art of Paul Klee, Jackson Pollack ++ and Georgia O'Keefe as examples.

Children will explore the art world of van Gogh and Picasso in classes at the Columbia Art Center, Long Reach Village Shopping Center.

"The Artist in Me" class featuring van Gogh will be held at 9:30 a.m. March 4.

"First-Time New Moms" are invited to Amherst House, Kings Contrivance Village Center, Wednesday mornings beginning at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22.

Planning for a spring outing can help fight winter doldrums.

So circle April 28 as your spring fling at the Oakland Mills Village's Other Barn.

An "Oldies ('50/'60s) but Goodies" dance is planned for that evening. Does anyone have a poodle skirt or letter sweater packed away in a trunk or attic? Take them out, dust them off and bring your memories to a night of dancing.
