Fire department presents awards, names new officers

The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department recently installed its 1995 officers and presented awards for 1994 at its annual banquet.

The Rotary Club presented the Firefighter of the Year award to Rick Subrizi, a member of the department for eight years who responds to accidents and fires where traffic or crowd control is needed. The top 10 fire responders were: Gene Whiteman, Elizabeth Luebberman, Glenn Whiteman, Dave Hoff, Bruce Fleming, Jeff Fleming, Brett Pierce, Bobby Chesney, Carig Steele and Jack Cimino.

The top 10 Emergency Medical Services responders were: Jeff Fleming, Elizabeth Luebberman, Brett Pierce, David Barnes, Kim Volkert, Robert Volkert, Glenn Whiteman, Chris Norris, William Baker and Julie Wilhide.

Administrative officers for 1995 are: president, Bill Wagner; vice president, Bill Baker; secretary, Larry Doyle; treasurer, Mary Carol Anske.

The board of directors are: Bill Luebberman, Bob Cassell, Joseph McCauley, Dave Hoff, Jim Freeze and Jill Schwartz.

Line officers are: chief, G. Edward Ruch; assistant chief, Elizabeth Luebberman; fire suppression captain, Charles Rosier; rescue captain, Bobby Chesney; EMS captain, Gregg McDonald.

Also at the banquet, the auxiliary presented the department with $30,000 earned from fund-raisers.
