Dinner, entertainment are right around corner

Where can you get a great dinner plus live entertainment and never leave the neighborhood? Why, at the roast beef dinner sponsored by the United Methodist Men of Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave. Dinner will be served from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 25 in the church hall.

The menu is roast beef, potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, a salad bar, bread, dessert and beverage.

The price is $8 for adults and $4 for children 6 to 12. Children 5 and under eat free.

Live entertainment will be provided throughout the dinner, beginning with the Sons of the Severn choral group at 3 p.m. Other performers will be George Silate, playing piano oldies, Severna Park Pickers, the TGIF Quartet, Patty Gillam playing inspirational piano favorites, the Blue Grass Band, and the Baltimore Harbor Chorus and Quartet.

Bill Lain will be master of ceremonies and DJ.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news. The PTA and CAC have scheduled a town meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria.

Attending the meeting will be Don Rodkey, director of middle schools for Anne Arundel County, and Dr. Victoria Hutchins, principal of Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle School.

All parents of students in the North County Feeder System are invited to attend.

Discussion will center on questions about the renovation of Brooklyn Park Middle and the schedule for moving sixth-graders into the completed building.

Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle School news. The band will sponsor a Burger King Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Burger King on Nursery Road to raise money for the band.

North County High School news. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the one-act plays presented last week.

The sophomore class won the best play award for its presentation of "This is a Test." Nadra Wass and Aaron Poynton were chosen as best directors for their work with the junior class.

Best performance by a freshman was won by Katie Collins; best performance by a sophomore was presented to Brian Forte; best performance by a junior was awarded to Matt Robey; and Tommie Brogunier took best performance by a senior.

Angie Guido, a sophomore, won best performance in a supporting role.

L Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the band room.

Students will be selling Joe Corbi pizzas and homemade subs beginning this week to help raise money for their trip to Atlanta.

Delivery will be March 4. If you do not know a student and would like to order pizzas or subs, call the school at 222-6970.

Don't forget, the Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association is accepting registration for softball, baseball and T-ball from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 25 and from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 26 at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave.

Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 16 as of July 31 are invited to play.

Harbor Hospital Center's news. The hospital's new patient-centered care unit will open today. Patient-centered care a pioneering health care movement dedicated to changing the way patients are cared for in hospitals.

It attempts to change the perception of the hospital from an intimidating institution to a place of comfort, nurturing and education.

Harbor Hospital is the first Maryland hospital to introduce this philosophy of care. The unit is designed to emphasize comfort and openness.

It encourages family involvement by providing a kitchen, great room and a resource library.

To prepare for the opening of this unit, which will serve renal and respiratory patients, the staff has participated in many training sessions.

The staff also is being rearranged into multidisciplinary teams of cross-trained specialists.

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School students in grades three through eight will "Jump Rope for the Heart" today to help raise money for the Heart Association.

About 155 students will be jumping in groups of five or six from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. to earn pledge money.
