Q: I have a pottery bowl or vase that I am curious about. I need to know if I should keep it or put it in a garage sale. It is decorated with pink flowers against a green background and has a handle in the shape of a twig. The glaze has a smooth, dull finish. On the bottom are the words "Roseville -- U.S.A. -- 310-10." Can you tell me the age and value of my bowl?
A: Your bowl is usually called Roseville art pottery and is considered highly collectible. George F. Young founded the firm in 1892 in Roseville, Ohio. Utilitarian stoneware, flowerpots and cuspidors were the original lines. Art pottery was not produced until 1898, after they relocated in Zanesville, Ohio. In 1954 production ceased.
The Apple Blossom line first appeared in 1948. It was available in background colors of matte glazes of green, coral and blue with the blossoms in relief. The number "310" is the mold number and "10" is the height in inches. The value of your bowl would probably be about $135 to $150.
