Clemson clobbers Maryland, 74-56 STATE WOMEN

Tara Savnooke scored 26 points and Stephanie Ridgeway added 21, leading host Clemson to a 74-56 victory over Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference game last night.

The Tigers (17-6, 7-4) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Terrapins (10-13, 2-10), 45-30. Keiri Thomas had 11 points for Clemson.

Stephanie Cross led Maryland with 16 points and Nina Ohman added 14 and four rebounds. Kesha Camper had 12 points and six assists.

* Navy 62, Colgate 52: Becky Dowling scored 13 points, leading Navy (12-10, 7-3) past Colgate in a Patriot League game.

* Coastal Carolina 66, Towson State 62: Jackie Busch scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, as Coastal Carolina (8-12, 4-7) rallied from a 38-28 halftime deficit to beat Towson State (10-10, 9-2) in a Big South Conference game.

* Johns Hopkins 81, Western Maryland 69: Karen Hoffman scored 17 points and handed out seven assists to lead Johns Hopkins (17-5, 10-2) into first place in the Centennial Conference-Western Division with a win over Western Maryland (14-6, 9-3).

* Mount St. Mary's 83, St. Francis (N.Y.) 73: Susie Rowlyk scored 20 points and Shari DeLaney added 17, leading Mount St. Mary's past St. Francis (N.Y.) (8-13, 3-10) in a Northeast Conference game.

Heather Wable had 12 points for Mount St. Mary's.

* Charleston Southern 50, UMBC 43: Chrissy Kelly scored 17 points and Jennifer Steadman added 13 and had 12 rebounds, leading host Charleston Southern (6-13, 4-6) past UMBC (11-8, 7-3) in a Big South Conference game. Kendra Damann led UMBC with 11 points.

* College of Notre Dame 85, Wesley 59: Julie Desmond scored 25 points and Jen Chaney added 23 and 10 rebounds, leading College of Notre Dame (10-9) past visiting Wesley (1-13).

* Salisbury State 78, Mary Washington 60: Kim Roth and Ava Tasker each scored 17 points, leading visiting Salisbury State (17-4, 11-1) past Mary Washington (10-11, 4-7) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

* Goucher 78, Gallaudet 49: Candi Jones scored 13 points as Goucher (14-7, 9-2) defeated visiting Gallaudet (3-18, 1-10) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

* Virginia Union 73, Bowie State 62: Regina Fields scored 28 points as Virginia Union (14-9) defeated visiting Bowie State. Brandy Lemons led the Bulldogs with 19 points and nine rebounds.

* Marymount 84, Frostburg State 81: Cathy Finney scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Marymount (17-4) came from 11 points down to defeat visiting Frostburg (14-7) in the Marymount Invitational Tournament.

* Haverford 73, Washington College 64: Kate Maggioto scored 23 points and Karen Miller had 18, leading host Haverford past Washington College.
