The family of an Edgewater man killed when his car hit a runaway horse in Davidsonville last fall has filed a $7 million suit against the woman who was boarding the animal.
Mary Jane Meredith, whose husband, Merlin Meredith, was killed Oct. 21, alleges in a suit filed Friday in Anne Arundel Circuit
Court that the negligence of Dorothy Greer of the 3200 block of Beards Point Road, Davidsonville, caused her husband's death.
Mr. Meredith, 40, of the 200 block of Oakwood Road was westbound in his 1987 Pontiac Firebird about 5:30 a.m. when two horses ran into his path, police said.
Mr. Meredith swerved around one horse and struck the other, police said. His car bounced into a guardrail and hit a tree, police said.
Mr. Meredith suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Along with Mrs. Meredith, the suit names as plaintiffs the couple's two children, Stephanie and Matthew Meredith.
The suit alleges that Ms. Greer failed to keep the horses properly enclosed and that the Meredith family has suffered "severe mental anguish and emotional pain and suffering" as a result.
Ms. Greer was unavailable for comment.
