With a pretty heart-shaped lace doily and a few quick stitches on the sewing machine, you can perk up an inexpensive plain sweat shirt for someone special on Valentine's Day.
Create the look you see in stores in just minutes. It's a perfect project for preteens or teens to tackle.
Here's how:
Pin a white heart-shaped crocheted or Battenburg lace doily to the front center of a white or solid-colored sweat shirt. (Look for the doilies in craft or fabric stores if you don't already have one tucked away at home.)
TTC Use small stitches to sew the edges of the heart to the sweat shirt. Remove the pins and turn the sweat shirt inside out.
Using the heart-shaped stitching as your guide, cut out the sweat shirt material 3/8 -inch from the stitching on the INSIDE of the heart shape. Be careful not to cut the lace! Discard the cut-out piece of sweat shirt material.
Turn the sweat shirt right side out.
Wear a cotton turtleneck shirt or T-shirt in a contrasting color under the sweat shirt. It will look nice showing through the lace heart.
