A 15-year-old student of the Gateway School at Westminster Air Business Park was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds and PTC possession of tobacco products.
City police said the student at the alternative school was observed at her locker with another student in what appeared to be the start of a transfer of a knife. School officials said they searched the locker and found a 6-inch folding knife and a package of cigarettes.
The girl was released to her father.

* Union Mills: Pleasant Valley and Westminster were dispatched to investigate the report of a fire alarm sounding in a building on Littlestown Pike at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday. Units were out 45 minutes.
* Westminster: Firefighters from Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester responded to a house in the first block of John Street for "smoke in a building" at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday. They forced open a side door and discovered a pot of food on the stove had burned and filled the two-story house with smoke. There was no fire. Westminster units were out for about 40 minutes to clear the smoke from the building and other equipment was canceled before arriving at the scene.
POLICE
* Westminster: A resident of Franklin Avenue reported to city police someone stole her purse from a church on Bond Street on Wednesday. She estimated her loss at $29.
A student at Western Maryland College told city police someone entered her room Monday and stole property. She estimated her loss at $790.
