State police said a man armed with a handgun escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing two employees of the High's Dairy Store in the first block of Liberty Road West on Tuesday night.

Investigators said the man walked into the store at 10:30 p.m., about 30 minutes before closing time, displayed a brown-handled revolver and demanded the money in the register.

The employees told police that the robber scooped up the money and ran from the store.

Police searched the area on foot, from the air and with two K-9 dogs, but without success.

2 Sykesville men face drug, assault charges

Two Sykesville men were arrested Tuesday afternoon on assault and drug charges after the vehicle in which they were riding was stopped by state police at an Eldersburg shopping center.

Both men were released after posting bail.

Police stopped a 1986 Ford van in the Peddlar's Square Shopping Center on Liberty Road at 5 p.m. About 30 minutes earlier, a resident of the 1000 block of Marriottsville Road reported that he had been splattered with pink paint pellets from a blowgun while standing at his mailbox.

The man gave police a description of the vehicle the men were driving and its license number, police said.

Tfc. Robert S. Serio said officers recovered 460.25 grams (slightly more than 1 pound) of suspected marijuana packaged in plastic bags, and $436. Police also seized the van.

Freedom pupils donate 1,459 pounds of food

Freedom Elementary School participated in the Neighbors in Need program during the Christmas holidays. Part of the program was having each class guess how much food was donated.

Jennie Dow's class won the contest by guessing closest to the 1,459 pounds of food that was brought in for the needy.

The class received a free pizza lunch.

The school also was given a certificate from Human Services Programs of Carroll County for their participation in the program.
