Basketball
* High school division boys -- On the strength of a strong second half, Charles Carroll topped Mount Airy I, 39-20, in a Carroll County League game. Troy Borneman had 14 points to lead Charles Carroll.
Mount Airy I held a two-point advantage at halftime, but was outscored 20-3 in the second half.
Josh Sanders (11 points) and Brett Haines (six) also helped pace the Charles Carroll offense.
Eric Gunder's 12 points led New Windsor over Charles Carroll, 36-26. Chris Terreo added 10 points for New Windsor.
Borneman again led Charles Carroll in scoring, with seven points. Jason Cashen produced five points for Charles Carroll.
* Senior division girls -- Amanda Goodacre tossed in eight points, leading St. John past North Carroll I, 31-19. Crystal Middleton added six points.
* Junior division coed -- Black (4-0) remained a game ahead in first place in the Sandymount League with a 25-13 win over Red.
Ann Rose Parker's 11 points led Black. Nirav Patel had six points for Red (0-4).
Walter Weise scored nine points as Blue (1-3) won its first game, edging Maroon, 16-15. Dusty Whaley notched six points for Maroon (2-2).
Danny Olsen produced seven points in leading Gold (3-1) past Green, 12-6. Tyler Quinell had six points for Green (2-2), which fell out of a second-place tie with Gold.
* Senior division coed -- Jeff Cheney scored 12 points to lift Green past Red, 36-29. Green (4-0) now has a two-game lead in the Sandymount League.
Ryan Du-- followed Cheney with 10 points for Green. Greg Halstead had 14 points for Red (2-2).
J.W. Sayre scored 23 points to lead Gold (2-2) over Black, 52-16. Timothy Utz had eight points for Black (2-2).
Brad Baker scored a season-high 34 points as Maroon (2-2) outlasted Blue, 63-50. Matt Rosier had 10 points for Maroon.
Jesse Peltzer scored 16 points for Blue (1-3). Mike McCurry added 12 points.
* Men's League -- Eldersburg Pools edged Random House, 72-65, in overtime to take over sole possession of first place in the Monday B Division.
Tom MacGruder scored 26 for Eldersburg (4-0). Robert Griffith netted 28 points for Random House (3-1).
The Red Dogs defeated Gallagher Pools, 74-54, and Ski's handled Marada, 80-48, to even their records at 2-2 and stay within two games of Eldersburg.
Greg Sturgill scored 25 points as Sturgill & Associates downed Four Seasons, 49-44, in the Tuesday night B Division game. Sturgill & Associates (3-1) remained in a first-place tie with Champs.
John Geza had 15 points for Four Seasons (2-2).
Champs (3-1) trounced Enfuegos, 77-51, behind 18 points each from Chris Yingling and John Gehrig. Mike Webster tallied 16 points for Enfuegos (0-4).
In the only other Tuesday B Division game, Vee's Tees (2-2) ran to a 69-59 victory over Hoosiers (2-2).
Wilson's Sports (4-0) remained the only undefeated team in the Wednesday A Division with a 70-64 victory over Sentinel Tile Company.
Kevin Apple totaled 27 points for Wilson's, which has a one-game lead over Now & Then Antiques (3-1). Sentinel (1-3) was led by Todd Calwell (30 points).
Normandy Health and Fitness (4-0) and Lehigh (4-0) maintained their spot atop the Thursday over-30 league with strong wins this week.
Justin and Derrick Knipe contributed 20 points apiece to lead Normandy to a 91-70 win over Eckenrode Insurance. Tim Hursey scored 26 points for Eckenrode (1-3).
With 21 points from Kevin Smith, Lehigh breezed past Lippy Brothers, 88-69. Keith Lippy had 24 points for Lippy Brothers (0-4).
Wrestling
Behind five wrestlers reaching the finals, the Warriors finished second in the
Dundalk Tournament to continue one of their best seasons.
Bryan Hamper (80 pounds), Jared Zillmer (110) and Mike Muller (122) all won individual titles for the Warriors. Hamper also was selected as the tournament's most outstanding wrestler by opposing coaches.
Zach Cox (115) and Jason Hamper (140) were runners-up at the tournament.
Mark Richard (75) and Andy Seal (130) each placed third. Kellen Weber (65), who had to forfeit the consolation finals with an injury, and Dan Patterson (75) took fourth place.
Fifth-place finishers included Jesse Stank (95), Brad Mann (115), Josh Elder (140) and Ryan Taylor (150).
Placing 11 of its 24 wrestlers, Manchester took fourth at the Hawks Invitational at Dundalk High School. Manchester competed against 16 teams at the 18-year-old tournament.
Tyler Graham (60) and James Holmes (85) each won titles. Fran Jackson (80) finished runner-up.
Fourth-place finishers for the Warriors were David Farrow (115) and Fred Aguilar (122). Matt Myers (75) and Mike Brown (122) took fifth place.
Sixth-place finishers included: Kyle Smith (70), Tim Myers (100), Aaron Hubbell (122) and Joey Hughes (150).
Indoor soccer
* 10-and-under boys -- Stephen Ayd had a goal and an assist to lead the North Carroll Cannons to a 4-1 victory over Craig's Lawn Service (0-4). The Cannons (4-1) are a half-game behind Sacred Heart for first place in the Carroll County Travel League.
Brett Grimm, Travis Schaeffer and Adam Therres each scored goals for North Carroll. Shaun Ford and Stephen Turner split time goal.
Swimming
Setting seven individual club records, the Carroll County YMCA Piranhas defeated Rehoboth, 365-202, and Hagerstown, 359-271.
Dan Soukup broke marks in the 50 freestyle (26.37 seconds), 200 freestyle (2:11.12) and the 50 backstroke (33.57) in the 11-12 age group. He made a 3.6-second improvement in the 200 freestyle.
Soukup owns six of the seven individual records in the 11-12 boys age group. All six of those marks were established in the last three months.
In the girls 11-12 age division, Whitney Palmer notched records in the 200 freestyle (2:25.03) and 100 freestyle (1:05.43). Her time in the 100 freestyle was over a second better than her previous personal best.
Carrie Braun set records in the 200 freestyle (2:17.87) and 100 backstroke (1:12.11) for the 13-14 girls age group. Both marks were set in the Hagerstown meet and scaled her previous best by more than 2 1/2 seconds.
Braun is the only girl other than Shannon Jones to own records in the 13-14 girls division.

The Rangers Baseball Club, a North Carroll Recreation program, will conduct a clinic for those between 11 and 16 years old from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Four Seasons Sports Complex.
