Johns Hopkins falls short against Swarthmore, 52-44 STATE MEN

Ben Schall scored 14 points to lead host Swarthmore to a 52-44 win over visiting Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game yesterday. Sam Voolich scored 11 for Swarthmore (12-9, 8-2).

Matt Gorman led the Blue Jays (3-18, 3-7) with 12 points.

* Essex 68, Montgomery-Rockville 67: Mark Franklin (Perry Hall) hit the front end of a one-and-one with seven seconds left to give host Essex Community College (15-9) a victory over Montgomery-Rockville. The victory clinched Essex's first winning season in 17 years. Dominique Minor (City) led Essex with 21 points. Craig Miskan led Montgomery-Rockville with 19.

* Baltimore CCC 100, Frederick CC 80: Dawood Thomas and Warren Wright (Mervo) each scored 23 points to lead host Baltimore CCC (16-6) past Frederick CC (11-14). Dana McCullough added 18 points for Baltimore. Anthony Wright (Lake Clifton) led all scorers with 26 points for Frederick.

* Garrett CC 102, Catonsville CC 90: Damien Keyes scored 26 points and Ronald Rhodes added 22, leading visiting Garrett CC (16-6) past Catonsville CC (12-11). Harry Brunson (Woodlawn) led Catonsville with 26.

* Dundalk CC 117, Montgomery-Germantown 83: Deon Levi and Demetrius Thompson combined for 61 points and 10 three-pointers as Dundalk CC (11-6) topped visiting Montgomery-Germantown.

* Howard CC 108, Chesapeake College 86: Deon Wingfield (Wilde Lake) scored 25 and Randolph Edison (Edmondson) added 22 as visiting Howard CC (19-6) defeated Chesapeake College (13-10).
