Valentine's wants: Chinese food, maid service and no Court TV

THE BALTIMORE SUN

"So what are you getting Greg for Valentine's Day?" she asked.

I looked at her, a blank expression on my face. Valentine's Day? It hadn't even crossed my mind. On a romantic scale of one to 10, I am probably a fraction.

"I've planned a long weekend at the inn where we spent our honeymoon. It's a surprise. Bill won't even know until I pick him up at the office Friday afternoon," she gushed.

Greg and I honeymooned at Kings Dominion, where the most romantic attraction was Yogi's Cave.

This is my curse: Give me a romantic weekend in February, I see the Visa bill in March. Buy me chocolates in a heart-shaped box, I see Jenny Craig waving a copy of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Perfume, I sneeze.

"So what would you like for Valentine's Day?" she asked sarcastically.

Easy. A gift certificate from Minute Maids cleaning service, the elimination of Court TV from my cable dial and a Chinese restaurant in Glen Burnie that delivers.

XXXOOO, Glen Burnie.

Indoor golf takes on a new challenge when duffers follow a course in the Comfort Inn Hotel in Linthicum during the Fourth Annual Rotary Charitable Indoor Golf Tournament on March 4. A shot gun tee-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Glen Burnie, this event is one of the more popular fund-raisers for the chapter, explains spokesman Ed DeGrange. All profits will benefit local charities.

Registration fees are $55 per golfer, $220 for a foursome, $30 for a nongolfer. Program sponsor ads cost $25.

Exclusive sponsorship of an individual hole is available for $100. Sponsors have the option of designing the hole.

Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A dessert table will follow and an open bar will be available during the event.

Players -- women, men and foursomes -- with the best scores will receive trophies, and an award will be given for the winner of a hole-in-one contest.

Because of space restrictions, registration is limited to 144 golfers. While the deadline is March 1, early registration is recommended.
