Loyola drills Boys' Latin

Loyola's Dan Cunnane (171 pounds) clinched the match with his pin of Alex Scott as unranked Loyola upset visiting and No. 15 Boys' Latin, 37-27, yesterday in an interdivisional Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association meeting.

The Dons (7-2) had a 31-9 lead after Dave Riley (140) edged Jason Leneau, 4-3; Jeremy Smith (145) earned a major decision, and Mark Lilly (152) overcame a 1-0 deficit for a 6-3 win over Lev Galitzen.

Loyola won five of the first seven bouts, including a forfeit at 103 and pins by Greg Miller (112) -- who overcame a 5-0 deficit against Todd Ulrich -- and Scott Smith (130). Nick Marsalek (119) scored an overtime takedown to beat the Lakers' Brian Berger, 6-4.

For Boys' Latin (6-2), Tim Berger (135, 21-2) led 9-0 before getting his 13th pin of the year over Nick Hollick. The Lakers' other pins came from sixth-ranked Erik Fitez (160) and Colby Cox (189), who overcame a 2-0 deficit against Owen Kerney.
