Reno, Lori Wilner and Rhodessa Jones are the three performers who will present separate one-woman shows at Center Stage in the theater's subscription offering titled "The Feminine Singular: Women Speak Solo."
The new series, which will be presented in the Head Theater, was announced by Center Stage artistic director Irene Lewis. She said the performers were selected because they represent "three extremely different approaches to a single performance, a single voice."
The series will begin March 14 with Reno's current events-based show, "Citizen Reno," which will continue through April 2. The performer, who uses only her last name, previously appeared in Baltimore in a sellout engagement at the Theatre Project in July 1991.
Wilner will perform David Schechter's play, "Hannah Senesh" (April 5-April 23), adapted from the diaries of the heroic Zionist who parachuted behind enemy lines with the British paratroopers in 1944.
The final offering will be a repeat engagement of "Big Butt Girls, Hard-Headed Women" (April 25 to May 7), Jones' show about women prisoners in a San Francisco county jail, which played to turn-away crowds during Center Stage's Off Center series last season.
Elaborating on the diversity of "The Feminine Singular," Lewis explained, "Reno is an in-your-face kind of performer. Lori Wilner quietly weaves these diary entries about this World War II heroine, and Rhodessa, really with great humor and personal observation and music, presents a scathing picture of life behind bars for women."
Single tickets to "Feminine Singular" are $23 and $28 and go on sale Feb. 20. For information call (410) 332-0033.
