'CBS This Morning' to broadcast from Inner Harbor this morning

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Don't look now, Baltimore, but once again you are in the national spotlight. "CBS This Morning" is coming to town and will broadcast its show live today from the metropolitan area.

Harry Smith and Paula Zahn will anchor the show from the Inner Harbor and broadcast primarily from the Maryland Science Center. Mark McEwen, the program's weather reporter and entertainment editor, will report the weather from Arundel High School in Gambrills, where he graduated in 1972.

Mr. McEwen, who lived in Crownsville as a teen-ager, served as sports editor for the Arundel High School paper and is remembered there as a stand-out wrestler, according to principal Midgie Sledge. "I believe he's kept close ties with the school," Ms. Sledge said, noting that he had served as a commencement speaker at a recent graduation.

While she admits the students and teachers are excited about Mr. McEwen's visit, she insists it will not interfere with the regular schedule. "This will be a normal school day," she said.

Mr. McEwen, who attended the University of Maryland at College Park, will be giving the nation a guided tour of his favorite local sights.

"CBS This Morning" also will celebrate Babe Ruth's 100th birthday with a visit to his birthplace, and will continue the baseball motif by interviewing Orioles owner Peter Angelos.

Also featured in today's show will be a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, and an interview with Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke.

"CBS This Morning" will air live shots periodically between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on WJZ-TV (Channel 13), the local CBS affiliate since Jan. 2.
